Disclosure of information about the standard insurance product

Property interests, not contrary to Ukrainian legislation, related to compensation for damage caused to life, health or property as a result of a road traffic accident involving the insured vehicle.

The insurance risk is damage caused to the life, health or property of victims as a result of a road traffic accident involving insured vehicles, which gives rise to liability to the victims. Vehicles not registered in Ukraine are not insured. Damage caused to the at-fault party or their vehicle is also not covered.

The insurance amount is determined by the international Green Card Bureau and depends on the country in whose jurisdiction the insured event occurred. You can review this at https://www.cobx.org/sites/default/files/2023-06/MinimumAmountOfCoverage-2023-05-22.pdf

The insurance payment amount is determined by the insurance company and depends on the type of transport, the territory and the certificate validity period.

Deductible is not applicable.

Contract territory

The contract is valid in the territories of countries specified in the Green Card certificate. Coverage for Azerbaijan, Cyprus, and Serbia is limited to the territory under their governments' control.

Countries where the policy is valid: Austria, Albania, Andorra, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, France, Finland, Liechtenstein, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Croatia, Italy, Israel, Iran, Ireland, Iceland, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Morocco, Moldova, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey.

Contract term

The contract may be concluded for 15 days, 21 days, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, 5 months, 6 months, 7 months, 8 months, 9 months, 10 months, 11 months, or one year. Extension is only possible by concluding a new contract.

If the policyholder fails to comply with the contract conditions (e.g., does not pay the premium or fails to timely report an accident), this may be grounds for refusing payments.

The Green Card is sold separately, without the need to purchase other goods or services.

The agent provides discounts and additional benefits when issuing insurance policies at the expense of their own premium.

Exceptions and refusals of payments

Payments are not made if:

  • The damage does not fall under civil liability.
  • Damage caused to the at-fault party in the accident. The insurer does not compensate for damage to the vehicle that caused the accident, or to property that was in such vehicle.
  • Damage during use of the vehicle in special cases. If the vehicle was used during a training run or official competitions, insurance coverage does not apply.
  • Damage from radiation and nuclear events. Insurance does not cover damage related to ionizing radiation, nuclear fuel, or other dangerous properties of explosive nuclear compounds.
  • Damage to high-value property. Payment is not made for damage to antique items, precious metals, stones, jewelry, religious items, paintings, manuscripts, money, securities, as well as philatelic or numismatic collections.
  • Damage due to extraordinary circumstances. If the accident occurred as a result of mass unrest, terrorist acts, natural disasters, ammunition explosions, or other force majeure situations, insurance does not cover such losses.
  • Damage to the at-fault driver. The insurance company does not cover damage to the life or health of the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident.

Grounds for refusal of insurance compensation:

  • Intentional actions. If the damage occurred through intentional actions of the person whose liability is insured (Policyholder, driver or victim), the insurance company may refuse compensation. This rule does not apply to cases where the actions are related to the performance of official or civic duties, as well as to situations involving necessary defense or protection of life and property.
  • Criminal offenses. If the accident resulted from an intentional criminal offense by the vehicle driver or vehicle owner, insurance payment is not made.
  • Non-fulfillment of obligations by the injured party. If the injured party or other person entitled to compensation did not fulfill their obligations (e.g., did not submit an insurance event application or did not provide necessary documents to confirm the accident), the insurance company may refuse payment.
  • Missed application deadlines. If the injured party does not submit the insurance event application on time, which is important for the investigation, insurance will not be paid. The application deadline is no more than one year for property damage and no more than three years for health or life damage to the victim, starting from the moment of the accident.

Limits and payment procedure

The liability limit is determined by the legislation of the country where the accident occurred. Payments are made in accordance with that country's legislation.

Under international Green Card insurance contracts, no benefits are provided by law

The Green Card policy contract provides insurance for damages to third parties. A change of owner does not terminate the contract and it remains valid until the end of its term, and the rights and obligations of the policyholder transfer to the new owner of the specified vehicle.

The Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine is the sole association of insurers engaged in compulsory civil liability insurance for land vehicle owners for damage caused to third parties. Address: Kyiv, Rusanivsky Blvd, 8
